The course is geared specifically to the correction of texts in English.
is work specific problems that arise in the task of proofreading and editing of translations, and will aim to reflection on key aspects of the activity.
The methodology will be practical. Students will receive weekly theoretical material, PowerPoint presentations, and application exercises to correct a text which will focus, in particular, the subjects discussed in the unit. The exercises resolved and corrected text will be delivered to the teacher on a date scheduled in advance. The activity will be complemented by discussions in the forums and chat sessions.
Due to the number and complexity of the issues that are intended to cover, the contents are divided into three modules, independently of each other, four weeks each.
Agenda: Introduction
. Levels of correction of a text: spelling, spelling, morphosyntactic, stylistic and vocabulary. Reliable sources: lexical dictionaries, dictionaries of doubt, web sites, manuals and style guides. Posing of the questions raised against the work of correction and editing.
1. The tenses and modes, uses and meanings. Verbal correlations. Misuse of the subjunctive conditional. Times obsolete. The gerund: restrictions. Regular and irregular participles. Uses of the infinitive.
2. Special Match: article and noun, noun and adjective, noun and verb. The position of the adjective in English. Special plural: compound words, Latin words, foreign words. Appositional compounds.
3. Pronouns and connectors. Uses, functions and common concerns. Common Mistakes of cohesion and coherence. Inaccuracies in the reference. Rules on the use of adverbs. Coordination problems.
